One of the most recognisable records in dance music history just got its first proper rework. Darude has released 'Sandstorm (Storm 25 Mix)' — the first official remix of 'Sandstorm' in more than 20 years — out 18 September 2026 on Vibing Out.
The Finnish producer (Ville Virtanen) built it out of a live rework made for his STORM 25 worldwide anniversary tour, marking 25 years of a track that long ago escaped the dancefloor. He rebuilt the original sounds from scratch — recreating it identically first, then reimagining it — and the new version keeps the iconic core melody while adding big-room energy, melodic-techno elements in the drop and orchestral textures in the breakdown.
"The track that started everything"
"This one is personal," Darude said. "It's the track that started everything for me" — adding that he was curious "how hard I can make it hit on a dancefloor in 2026."
The scale of 'Sandstorm' is hard to overstate: 1 billion+ streams, 322 million YouTube views, and placements spanning the FIFA World Cup, NFL broadcasts, Copa América, the 2024 Paris Olympics and countless games and memes. Twenty-five years on, its creator finally getting his own hands back on it is a fitting anniversary move.
