Ibiza Set to Freeze New Nightclub Licences Under Tourism Intervention Plan

Ibiza is closing the door on new nightclubs. Under the island's forthcoming Tourism Intervention Plan (PIAT), no new major nightclub licences are expected to be issued in the coming years — a hard cap on an industry that has spent a decade expanding.
The proposal was announced by Mariano Juan, First Vice President of the Ibiza Council. The reasoning is blunt: the Council has concluded the island already has enough entertainment venues, and the goal is "to stop the island's nightlife sector from expanding any further."
Existing clubs are safe
This is a freeze on new licences, not a closure programme. Pacha, Amnesia, Hï Ibiza, UNVRS, Ushuaïa and DC10 all continue operating unchanged.
Why now
The move sits inside a wider effort to manage tourism pressure and protect what the Council calls the island's "current structural and cultural identity" — something many residents feel has been eroded by unchecked growth. It also lands in the middle of an ongoing local debate about club ownership consolidating into fewer hands while smaller independent venues quietly disappear.
It has been an active few weeks for Ibiza regulation. A €150 fine for buying from unauthorised beach vendors and Sant Antoni's €750 swimwear-in-town fine both made headlines the same week, and a Solomun Diynamic Outdoor show at San Antonio's Cantera Can Coix was cancelled after community backlash.
