Björk DJs Iceland's Total Solar Eclipse in a Balloon Dress at Echolalia Festival

While Ibiza watched the same eclipse at sunset, Björk did something only she would: she DJ'd it.

At Echolalia festival in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland on 12 August 2026 — directly in the path of totality — Björk played a set timed precisely to the eclipse. She performed from 17:50 to 18:47 GMT, with the moon fully blocking the sun for one minute and four seconds right in the middle of her time behind the decks, wearing an elaborate balloon dress for the occasion.

An avant-garde selection

The setlist was every bit as adventurous as you'd expect — Marina Herlop's 'Jaque', Safety Trace & Arca's 'El Alma Que Te Trajo', Kelela's 'If We Meet Again', a Machine Girl remix, HWXXNG's 'Cyber Shamanism', and a Rosalía, Björk & Yves Tumor remix.

A landmark festival moment

Echolalia also featured Arca and marked the 40th anniversary of Icelandic label Smekkleysa (Bad Taste), founded in 1986. Between Ibiza and Iceland, the eclipse gave electronic music two of its most striking images of the summer — and Björk supplied the most unforgettable one.
