Massive Attack have been banned from performing in Singapore after displaying a Palestinian flag on stage during their show at The Star Theatre on 29 July 2026.

Band members Robert "3D" Del Naja and Grant "Daddy G" Marshall held up the flag mid-set, with one shouting "Free Palestine." The act breached Singapore's regulations, which prohibit displaying foreign flags and emblems without a permit and restrict political expression under performance licences.

The regulator's response

Singapore's media regulator, the IMDA, issued "stern warnings" to both performers for breaching their licence conditions, and then blocked any future performance applications from the group in the country — an effective ban.

In keeping with form

For Massive Attack, this is consistent with a long history of using their platform for political activism, and the band's set has become as much a statement as a show in recent years. At the time of writing they had not commented publicly on the ban — though the group later responded pointedly: "As we were saying… Free Palestine."
