Bass music is mourning Sam King, the vocalist and rapper behind two of Excision's best-known tracks, who died on Saturday 3 October 2026. A cause has not been made public.
Born in Las Vegas and based in Los Angeles, King co-wrote 'G Shit' and 'Death Wish' for Excision's third album, Virus, released a decade ago — tracks that became staples of the dubstep and bass scene. He reconnected with Excision on 'Evolution', the 2019 title track of his EP with Wooli, and lent vocals across the genre to Space Laces, Kai Wachi, Jayceeoh and Snails, including 'Break It Down' with Snails and Space Laces.
Beyond music
King also made hip-hop under the alias SK4MC, releasing singles including 'RASTA' and 'FLAWS IN MY FLESH' earlier this year. He worked as a filmmaker too, involved with camera gear brand Prism Lens FX since its 2019 launch, with recent credits for Chris Brown, Kehlani and Key Glock.
Tributes
Excision wrote: "Incredibly sad to hear about the passing of Sam King, the voice behind 'G Shit' and 'Death Wish'." Snails said simply, "I truly can't find the words for the passing of Sam." Prism Lens FX said he leaves "a massive, undeniable hole in our lives and in the lives of so many others."
