Fifteen years on, it's hard to overstate how much David Guetta's 'Nothing But The Beat' reshaped dance music's place in the mainstream. Released 26 August 2011, Guetta's fifth studio album turns 15 — and its fingerprints are still all over pop radio.
The singles that ran the decade
The tracklist reads like a greatest-hits set on its own: 'Titanium' with Sia, 'Without You' with Usher, 'Turn Me On' with Nicki Minaj, 'Where Them Girls At' with Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj, 'Little Bad Girl' with Taio Cruz and Ludacris, and 'Sweat' with Snoop Dogg. Four singles hit the Billboard Hot 100 top 20.
A blueprint others followed
Cleverly, the album was a double disc — vocal-led pop on one side, instrumental club material on the other — literally bridging Guetta's Ibiza house roots and his mainstream ambitions. That format, and its success, became the template a generation of producers chased throughout the 2010s EDM boom. It's the record that turned a French house DJ into one of the era's biggest pop hitmakers.
Guetta remains at the centre of the scene 15 years on — from the Tomorrowland anthem 'Human' to his first-ever B2B with Carl Cox at UNVRS Ibiza this summer.
